I received the news yesterday that Feb. 13 is my first official day as Manager of the Bankruptcy Closing Unit. I'm a little nervous about having to work so closely with upper-management; I've always appreciated the fact that someone else had to deal with the politics and inter-office crap. I don't play the office politics game; I'm very straight-forward with my approach to work: get there, do your work, go home. Pretty simple approach, I think.

I've done a lot of stuff to change how we handle our work load and thankfully, my boss has made certain that her superiors know it. I really do love my boss--as a manager and a friend, no one could ask for a better person. She's fair and understanding and she would move heaven and earth if it meant helping me (or any of her employees) out. I really will miss having her around. I've learned from the best, so I hope that I can use what I've learned from her to affect others in the same way. I think I'm easy to get along with for the most part; all I ask is for the same respect that I give others and to not expect a free-ride. I don't like the attitudes of those who come in expecting to coast through the day doing as little work as possible. We are the quality control; if we screw up, it's not something that's swept under a rug--we pay huge fines and are sanctioned by the courts if we make mistakes. That's enough to make a person paranoid.

Anyway, I'm starting to look forward to the change. I think it can mean many good things for me, but of course, there will be a ton more work coming my way...
